"I call it a turbine sound," he said of the sound. "Because it's an electric motor it's got 100 percent torque all the time. So it just pulls you like when you're taking off in an airplane."
After several years of development, the Roadster — with sleek lines like a Ferrari or Porsche and a sticker price of $109,000 — officially moves from the drawing boards to the market next week when Tesla's first store opens.
The car goes from 0 to 60 mph in just under four seconds and tops out at 125 mph. It goes 225 miles on one charge and can be fully recharged in 3.5 hours, which Tesla officials say should allow most people to drive it to work and back and recharge it at night like a cell phone.
This car will not be in everybody's reach with a $109K sticker price BUT the TOYOTA PRIUS HYBRID PLUG IN will be (introduced in 2009). It's definitely a HUG breathrough for the technology and I hope it will attract the attention of a lot of people. It's time to teach the ILLEGAL Middle East Cartel a lesson.
The difference between a "normal" hybrid and a "plug in" hybrid:
Both have 2 engines, a combustion and battery engine. A normal hybrid has smaller batteries and doesn't have an external "charge" possibility. A plug in let's you drive solely on electric energy because it has a bigger and more efficient battery pack AND can be recharged by plugging it into a normal 110 V or 220 V outlet. The range for hybrids is the main problem at this time. But on average people drive 29miles a day with their car so that will be in the range of Toyota's plug in hybrid in 2009.
